Ahrefs vs SISTRIX: which SEO tool fits?
Compare Ahrefs and SISTRIX for visibility, backlinks, history, pricing and limits. Choose around your site, market and competitor research.

The short answer: start with the decision you need to make
Ahrefs is a useful starting point for connecting a competitor's pages, keywords and backlinks. SISTRIX deserves particular attention when you need to understand visibility changes in a market and compare domains over time. These are starting points, not hard boundaries: both products cover several of these needs.
The deliverable matters. A shortlist of ten link sources, an investigation after a migration and monthly reporting for five clients need different data and allowances. Compare the work each tool enables rather than treating unlike metrics as equivalent.
| Task | Ahrefs | SISTRIX |
|---|---|---|
| Understand a competitor | Pages, keywords, estimated traffic and links in Site Explorer | Visibility, directories, keywords and competitors by market |
| Investigate a change | Changes in pages, keywords and links | Visibility history and domain comparisons |
| Plan link building | Referring domains, lost links and overlap | Links, competitor sources and visibility-based review |
| Find content opportunities | Keywords Explorer and Content Gap | Keyword research and competitor opportunities |
| Monitor your own site | Site Audit and Rank Tracker | Projects, on-page analysis and keyword monitoring |
| Check before buying | History, credits, rows and exports in the plan | History, projects, users and export credits |
Estimated traffic and visibility measure different things
Ahrefs' organic traffic metric estimates monthly clicks from rankings, search volumes and assumed click-through rates. It helps compare pages and competitors, but does not read their Analytics account.
The SISTRIX Visibility Index summarizes Google presence across a set of queries. It is useful for trends and comparisons within a market. An index of 10 means neither ten visitors nor ten thousand visits. Similar visibility in two countries does not imply equal traffic.
For your own site, compare those signals with Search Console clicks and recorded leads or sales. An improving chart may reflect queries that contribute little to your business. Keep country, device, dates and scope consistent: domain, subdomain or directory.
When Ahrefs is a practical starting point
Site Explorer connects performing pages, ranking keywords and the link profile. Start with the sections attracting estimated traffic, then inspect pages in the relevant category. A successful blog does not establish that the same site's commercial pages perform equally well.

Content Gap surfaces queries where competitors rank and your site does not. Filter for relevance: a query shared by three competitors is not automatically a good topic for you. Check the search intent and the pages that actually appear.
Treat backlink lists as research leads. Open the source page, assess its topic, link placement and destination. Our competitor backlink analysis guide explains this process. Referring-domain counts alone do not tell you which opportunities deserve your time.
When SISTRIX helps explain the change
During a visibility decline, compare the domain, its directories and competing sites. Locate the change: is the market affected, is one category losing positions, or is another site gaining the same queries? A change near a Google update is a lead to investigate, not proof of causation.

The index's limitations matter for niche and local businesses: some specific queries are poorly represented in a national sample. Tracking your own keyword set can be more informative. Accessible history also depends on the plan, even when the vendor holds much older data.
SISTRIX is not just that index. Its backlink analysis combines its data with partners including Majestic. Projects also offer on-page analysis and keyword monitoring. Reducing the product to a single chart would miss these capabilities.
Compare both on the same business question
Consider a furniture shop investigating why its tables category trails a competitor. This is a suggested exercise, not a case study with invented results.
- Select the country where the shop sells and two competitors appearing for the same searches.
- Examine the relevant category, not just the brand or entire domain. Keep five pages and ten queries for closer review.
- Compare trends over the same period. Check that the required history is included before interpreting missing data.
- Open the pages and a sample of link sources. Compare findings with your clicks and sales, then write a justified action list.
Prefer the tool that lets you explain your decisions with evidence. If one reveals the right pages to improve and the other useful link sources, you have identified two tasks, not necessarily a reason to maintain two subscriptions.
Pricing: check history and exports as well
| Plan | Monthly price | Listed history | One limit to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs Starter | US$29 | 1 month | 200 credits; no row exports |
| Ahrefs Lite | US$129 | 6 months | 1,000 credits; 2,500 rows per report |
| SISTRIX Start | €119 before tax | 3 months | 3 projects and one user |
| SISTRIX Plus | €239 before tax | 5 years | 15 projects and three users |
Sources: Ahrefs Starter/Lite limits and SISTRIX packages, checked October 30, 2026. The currencies differ: US$129 and €119 cannot establish the cheaper option without an exchange rate and tax treatment. Annual billing and add-ons need a separate comparison.
Exports can matter more than the entry price. Starter suits limited exploration, not a workflow requiring thousands of exported rows. Likewise, investigating a migration from two years ago needs more than three or six months of history: select the tier that opens the period you need.
Our starting choice by task
- Link research and competitor pages: start with Ahrefs, then verify the results relevant to your market.
- Visibility diagnosis and historical comparison: start with SISTRIX on a tier covering the required period.
- Niche or local business: first check coverage of real queries and custom tracking options.
- Agency: compare seats, projects, exports and reporting requirements before choosing a plan.

Frequently asked questions
Does SISTRIX also analyze backlinks?
Yes. Link analysis is among its listed features. Compare the pages and sources found for your case rather than assuming one tool cannot address the task.
Which one shows a competitor's exact traffic?
Neither metric grants access to private analytics. Ahrefs traffic is estimated; the SISTRIX index measures something different. Use first-party measurement for your own properties.
Do I need both?
Not necessarily. Define the result you need and check whether one tool covers the workflow. A second occasional view can help without justifying another permanent subscription.
